"We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."
Romans 6:4
Baptism is not what saves you. It's how you publicly declare what already happened on the inside. When you follow Jesus, baptism is your way of saying to the world, to your community, and to yourself: I belong to Him. I'm all in.
Jesus himself was baptized in the Jordan, going completely under water and coming back up. We baptize by full immersion to follow that same picture. The act mirrors His death, burial, and resurrection, and it mirrors your own story: the old life buried, a new life risen.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
Jesus' command: baptism isn't optional, it's part of the call to follow Him.
"For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ."
Paul's picture of baptism: the moment you trade your old identity for Christ Himself.
"Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Peter's call on the day of Pentecost: baptism was the first public response to the gospel, and it still is today.
If you've placed your faith in Jesus Christ, whether that happened last week or ten years ago, you're ready. Baptism isn't about being perfect or having everything figured out. It's about publicly saying what you already believe in your heart.
At Citymark, we baptize people who are old enough to understand and personally own their decision to follow Jesus. If you have questions about whether you're ready, we'd love to talk it through with you.
That is a beautiful thing, and it meant something real. It was an act of dedication by your parents, a way of saying they wanted to raise you in the faith. But infant sprinkling is different from believer's baptism. Baptism in the New Testament is always a personal, conscious decision made by someone who has already placed their own faith in Jesus. It can't be done on your behalf before you believed, because baptism is your response, your declaration. If you've since surrendered your life to Jesus and haven't been baptized as a believer, we'd love to walk you through that step.
We love kids who love Jesus, and that excitement is worth celebrating. At Citymark, we want to make sure that baptism is a genuine, personally-owned decision. That looks different for every child. Some kids at 7 or 8 are absolutely ready; others need more time and spiritual growth before they fully understand what they're stepping into. We encourage parents to have a conversation with one of our pastors so we can talk through where your child is in their faith and what the right next step looks like for them. We're not trying to slow them down. We just want it to mean everything it's supposed to mean.
There's no rule against it, but we'd encourage you to think carefully about why. If you were previously baptized as a genuine believer and the moment was meaningful, that baptism stands. You don't need to repeat it just because time has passed or your faith has deepened. However, if you were baptized before you truly understood what you were doing, or in a context that didn't reflect believer's baptism by immersion, it makes complete sense to be baptized again as a fully-informed, all-in follower of Jesus. Come talk to us and we'll help you figure out what's right for your story.
We believe it does, not because sprinkling makes someone less of a Christian, but because full immersion best captures the picture that baptism is meant to paint. Going under the water and coming back up mirrors death and resurrection. It tells the whole story. The Greek word used in the New Testament, baptizo, literally means to immerse or dip. At Citymark, we want the outward act to match the inward reality as closely as possible, and full immersion does that beautifully.
Not at all. We've got you covered, literally. We provide everything you need: shorts, shirts, even undergarments, so you can show up completely empty-handed. We'll have towels ready and a private area to change before and after. The whole thing takes about 60 seconds in the water, but the moment lasts a lifetime. Our team will walk you through everything beforehand so you feel completely prepared and at ease.
